Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected in parts of Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Strong winds between 30-40 kmph can also be experienced in several regions, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in Central, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The public is advised to take precautions against possible lightning strikes and temporary strong winds during thundershowers.
Marine Weather Conditions:
Showers are expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-westerly, with speeds ranging between 30-40 kmph.
However, wind speeds may increase up to 55-60 kmph in the sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota, and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar. Sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai are expected to be rough to very rough at times, with wave heights rising between 2.5 to 3.0 meters. Coastal surges are possible from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota.
Naval and fishing communities have been urged to remain vigilant due to hazardous marine conditions.
