Sri Lanka has introduced a National Children’s Week, replacing the previous practice of celebrating only International Children’s Day on October 1.
The announcement was made by Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Savitri Paulraj, at a press conference held at the Government Information Department.
Accordingly, National Children’s Week will be observed from September 26 to October 1, creating a dedicated period to highlight the rights, well-being, and development of children across the island.
The initiative aims to raise awareness on child-related issues and promote programmes and activities that strengthen family and community support for children.
Minister Paulraj noted that the move reflects the government’s broader commitment to improving child welfare policies and ensuring a safer, healthier, and more supportive environment for the nation’s younger generation.
