World Ayurveda Day, which falls on September 23, is being commemorated in Sri Lanka today under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, with the participation of Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha.
This year marks the 10th observance of World Ayurveda Day, held under the theme “Ayurveda for People & Planet.” The local commemoration ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine auditorium, University of Colombo.
The main international celebration will take place at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Goa, India, focusing on promoting sustainable healthcare and integrating Ayurveda with modern medicine.
The Sri Lanka Department of Ayurveda, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the Office of the High Commission of India in Colombo, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, and the University of Colombo, has organized the national event.
The program aims to highlight the quality, safety, and effectiveness of Ayurveda while strengthening its integration with modern medical science. A number of eminent scholars, including professors and specialists representing the Ayurveda sector, are expected to deliver keynote addresses during the ceremony.
As a leading institution in the field, the Department of Ayurveda continues its mission to promote and preserve the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka.
