The Department of Meteorology has announced that showers will continue at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya, on 23rd September 2025.
A few showers may also occur in the North-western province, while thundershowers are expected in parts of Uva, Ampara, and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are forecast over the western slopes of the central hills and across the Central, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The public has been urged to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the marine weather advisory warns of rough sea conditions. Winds will be south-westerly at 30-40 kmph, but speeds could increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota, and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar. Wave heights of 2.5 to 3.0 meters are also possible off the coast from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara, and Hambantota.
The seas off Galle to Pottuvil and Chilaw to Kankasanthurai are expected to be rough at times, while seas off Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee may be fairly rough.
The Meteorology Department has strongly advised fishermen and naval communities to remain cautious and avoid risks in affected sea areas.
