The Sri Lanka Police has alerted the public to a fake letter circulating online that falsely claims to be issued under the signature of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The fraudulent document alleges that the IGP instructed the “Bureau for the Investigation of Abuse of Children & Women” to apprehend individuals involved in sexual exploitation of minors via the internet.
The Police clarified that no such letter has ever been issued and emphasized that the document is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. Citizens are strongly advised not to share, publish, or endorse such false content, as circulating fabricated documents may be punishable under the law.
The Sri Lanka Police reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and women, maintaining law and order, and providing accurate information. The public is urged to rely only on official announcements from the Police Media Division.
