Sri Lanka’s Inflation Rises to 1.5% in August

Sri Lanka’s overall rate of inflation, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), increased to 1.5% in August 2025, compared to 0.7% in July 2025, according to the latest data from the Department of Census and Statistics.

Food inflation rose to 2.9% in August, up from 2.2% in July, while Year-on-Year inflation in the non-food group increased to 0.4% from -0.6% recorded in the previous month.

The contribution of food commodities to inflation stood at 1.26% in August, reflecting a notable rise compared to July.

Meanwhile, the NCPI for all items in August was reported at 207.2 index points, marking a decrease of 1.1 points from July 2025.
