The Central Nuwaragam Province Divisional Secretary, Sudarshana Dissanayake, has issued a notice to Mrs. Ajantha Rupasari Herath, wife of former North Central Province Governor Mahipala Herath, to demolish a hotel and several buildings constructed on a 60-perch land plot within the Peramiyankulam Tank Reserve.
The order requires the demolition to be carried out within one month, citing that the constructions were carried out illegally without proper documentation.
This follows the government’s policy decision to demarcate tank reserves in the Anuradhapura District, an initiative now underway by the Irrigation Department.
Mr. Dissanayake stated that once the Peramiyankulam Tank Reserve was surveyed and boundary stones laid, it was confirmed that the hotel stood within the protected reserve, prompting the demolition notice.
