Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara, says a special discussion was held regarding the issuance of visas for Sri Lankans currently residing in Israel without valid visas.

The matter was taken up during the annual meeting of the Parliamentary Friendship Association established in the Israeli Parliament to strengthen parliamentary-level cooperation between Sri Lanka and Israel.

Ambassador Bandara noted that since Sri Lankans, along with several other nationalities, are facing this issue, a request has been made to present the matter before the Foreign Workers Committee of the Israeli Parliament. He further stated that he intends to raise the issue during the committee’s upcoming discussions.

Meanwhile, the meeting also focused on opportunities for Sri Lankan parliamentary officials to receive training in Israel.

The discussion was attended by the Chairman of the Israel–Sri Lanka Friendship Association, Dr. Tsega Melaku, officials of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from the Foreign Policy Division of Parliament, as well as the Deputy Head of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel, Hemantha Ekanayake.
