Public Transport Drivers to Obtain Mandatory License by December 31

Speaking at a meeting held in Ampara, the Minister said that arrangements are already underway to introduce the license, which will be compulsory for drivers engaged in passenger transport services across the country.i

Mnister Rathnayake emphasized that the decision was taken with passenger safety in mind, highlighting the need for responsibility and proper regulation within the public transport sector. He further stressed that only trained and qualified individuals should be entrusted with the task of transporting passengers.

The Ministry is expected to release further guidelines and procedures regarding the new license in the coming weeks.
