The National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) has said that it expects to release the test report on the substances recently discovered on a plot of land in Netolpitiya, Tangalle, to the police next week.
A spokesperson for the Board stated that the testing process on the relevant substances is now in its final stages.
The discovery followed revelations made by members of a criminal gang arrested in Indonesia, which led authorities to uncover a stock of chemicals believed to be used in the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as ice) in the Middeniya area. Subsequent raids uncovered similar stocks in Netolpitiya and Kandana, Tangalle, with samples sent to the NDDCB and the Department of Government Analysts for examination.
According to the NDDCB, tests have already confirmed that the substances found in Middeniya contained methamphetamine. Out of 20 samples collected from the site, 17 were identified as containing methamphetamine-related chemicals.
The Board further said that while the Netolpitiya report will be handed over next week, the test report on the substances found in Kandana will also be issued in the near future.
