Nalin Hewage responds to reports on asset declarations

Commenting on claims that he holds Rs. 2.2 million in bank accounts and owns land worth Rs. 2.4 million, Hewage said the bank deposits largely consist of funds received at a function for his daughter earlier this year. “People contributed money at the event on January 1, and I have records of who gave how much. That money belongs to my daughter, and anyone can verify it,” he noted.

The Deputy Minister also underlined that his land was purchased prior to entering politics. “We are not beggars. Before entering politics, I completed my degree and served as a government teacher. It was during that period that I bought this 10-perch land,” he explained.
