The Government Analyst’s Department has confirmed that chemical samples recovered from a stockpile in Middeniya contain substances used in the production of methamphetamine (commonly known as ‘Ice’).

The discovery was linked to information uncovered during the interrogation of Bachoeh Saman, who was arrested in Indonesia alongside organized criminal and drug trafficker Kehelbaddara Padme. Acting on this intelligence, police recovered two containers of suspected chemicals from a plot of land in the Thorayaya area, Middeniya.

Investigations have revealed that some of the chemicals seized had been transported across multiple locations—first to Nuwara Eliya, where Ice production is suspected to have taken place, and later moved between Hambantota, Godagama, and Kandana.

Following the seizure, both the Government Analyst’s Department and the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board collected samples for testing. The latest report confirms the presence of methamphetamine-related substances, providing strong evidence of attempts to manufacture the drug locally.
