The United States marked another step in strengthening security cooperation with Sri Lanka, as young Sri Lanka Army engineers successfully graduated from the inaugural Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Level 1 course conducted in partnership with U.S. Army Pacific.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Jayne Howell and Senior Defense Official Lt. Col. Matthew House, who congratulated the officers on completing the intensive training.

The newly trained engineers are now equipped with critical skills to detect and safely clear mines and unexploded ordnance. Their expertise will play a key role in reopening farmland, reconnecting communities, and ensuring the safety of children in mine-affected regions.

U.S. officials emphasized that supporting Sri Lanka in building such capabilities not only strengthens local resilience but also contributes to broader Indo-Pacific security.

This training is about saving lives, restoring livelihoods, and making our communities safer. When our partners are secure, America is more secure,” officials highlighted during the event.

The program reflects the growing defense cooperation between the two countries and underscores the U.S. commitment to helping Sri Lanka achieve long-term stability and peace.
