A sergeant attached to the Ganemulla Commando Regiment has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly supplying ammunition to a high-profile inmate.
The suspect is accused of providing 350 rounds of ammunition to the inmate, identified as Commando Salintha, who is currently in detention and linked to organized criminal activities.
According to CID sources, the sergeant had reportedly sold the ammunition at Rs. 1,000 per round, amounting to a total transaction of Rs. 350,000.
The arrest was made following an investigation into the illicit supply chain. Further inquiries are underway.
