The luxury car involved in the recent fatal collision with a bus at Rawanaella on the Ella–Wellawaya Road was not equipped with a recording function in its security camera system, according to the vehicle's local agents.

The car, reportedly valued at Rs. 80 million and originally purchased in 2003 from a dealership in Boralesgamuwa, came fitted with a four-camera security system intended solely for driver convenience. The supplier clarified that the system does not include recording capabilities unless specially requested—an option most buyers do not select.

This information was submitted to police in response to a court order, Ella Police OIC Chief Inspector T.K.U.W. Abeygunawardene confirmed.

Meanwhile, Bandarawela Magistrate Gemunu Chandrasekara, on Wednesday (17), ordered the release of the vehicle to its owner on a security bond of Rs. 80 million. The magistrate also imposed strict conditions: the vehicle must not be repainted or cosmetically altered, and it cannot be sold or transferred to another party.

The case has been postponed to October 28.
