Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody says it is the firm policy of the government to make maximum use of renewable energy sources and modern technologies in order to achieve the country’s energy goals while ensuring financial stability.

He made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the “Stakeholder Consultation on Draft Renewable Hydrogen Policy of Sri Lanka” held in Colombo yesterday (18).

The Minister highlighted that Sri Lanka has vast renewable energy potential and the government is committed to developing transmission, storage, and infrastructure facilities to expand the share of renewable power in the national grid.

“The use of hydrogen for power generation is very important for the future. A basic step in this process is to prepare a draft policy on it. This consultation workshop with stakeholders is a vital step in drafting that policy,” he said.

He further noted that both Sri Lankan and international experts, particularly those with extensive experience in developed countries, will be invited to contribute to the policy-making process to ensure the nation meets its long-term energy goals.
