
Showers, Thundershowers, and Strong Winds Expected in Several Areas Today

According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts. Eastern and Uva provinces and the Hambantota district are also expected to experience showers or thundershowers after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in Galle and Matara districts. Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times in the western slopes of the central hills, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The public is urged to take necessary precautions against localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, in the sea areas around the island, showers or thundershowers are likely at times off the coast from Kankasanthurai to Matara via Colombo and Galle, with several other sea areas also expected to experience showers during the evening or night.
Winds will remain south-westerly at 30–40 kmph, strengthening up to 50–55 kmph at times in sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds up to 50 kmph can also be expected from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.
The sea areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota may turn rough at times, while seas from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai may be fairly rough. Temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are also possible during thundershowers.
