Sri Lanka booked their place in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 after defeating Afghanistan by six wickets in the final Group B clash today (18). With this result, Afghanistan were eliminated from the tournament, while Bangladesh advanced alongside Sri Lanka.
Batting first after winning the toss, Afghanistan posted 169/8 in their 20 overs. Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi played a sensational knock, smashing 60 runs off just 22 balls, including five sixes in the final over, to give his side a late boost.
Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Thushara produced a match-winning spell with the ball, claiming 4 for 18 in his four overs and restricting Afghanistan’s top order from building momentum.
In reply, Sri Lanka chased down the target comfortably in 18.4 overs. Kusal Mendis anchored the innings with a superb unbeaten 74 off 53 deliveries, guiding his team to victory despite Afghanistan’s spin challenge.
