Kotte Municipal Councillor granted bail

Harshani Sandaruwani, a municipal councillor of the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council, who was recently arrested, was granted bail after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Sandaruwani was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in connection with contemptuous remarks allegedly made against the judiciary and its rulings during court proceedings held on August 22, when former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was presented before the court.
The arrest followed an investigation conducted by the CID’s Special Investigation Unit, which led to the detention of the 46-year-old councillor.
