Election for Diyawadana Nilame of Sri Dalada Maligawa set for November

The election to appoint the new Diyawadana Nilame of the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy is scheduled to be held on or around November 7, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Gamini Senarathna announced.
The term of the incumbent Diyawadana Nilame came to an end earlier this month. He has since been serving in an acting capacity for a three-month period.
According to the Department of Buddhist Affairs, necessary arrangements have already been made to conduct the election for the appointment of a new Diyawadana
