The satellite, named ‘BIRDS-X Dragonfly’, was carried to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard NASA’s SpaceX-33 rocket, which was launched on August 24.
This milestone follows Sri Lanka’s earlier achievements in space technology. In 2019, the country successfully launched its first nano-satellite, ‘Ravana-1’, and in 2022, the ‘KITSUNE’ satellite was launched as part of a multinational technological collaboration involving five international partners.
According to officials, the BIRDS-X Dragonfly will be released into its designated orbit from the ISS at 2:15 p.m. tomorrow.
The launch marks another significant step in Sri Lanka’s advancements in space science and technology.
