Army chief commends corporal’s heroic Ravana falls rescue

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, commended Corporal W.M.V.M. Bandara of the 2nd Regiment Special Forces on 16 September 2025 at the Army Headquarters, Colombo, for his extraordinary bravery in rescuing three victims during the tragic bus accident at Ravana Falls on 04 September 2025.
For the act of bravery, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal from the rank of Lance Corporal. Further, the Army Chief presented a cash incentive to the injured soldier, who risked his life despite sustaining a severe head injury during the rescue.
In further recognition, Lieutenant Colonel Ajith Siyambalapitiya (Retd), Secretary of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association, also presented a cash incentive to Corporal Bandara, honouring his gallantry and dedication.
