Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Energy Eng. Kumara Jayakody ceremonially connected the ‘Sobadhanavi’ 350 MW Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Power Plant at Kerawalapitiya to the national grid a short while ago.
The plant, located in Kerawalapitiya, is considered a major milestone in Sri Lanka’s efforts to enhance energy security and diversify its power generation sources. The project is expected to provide a stable supply of electricity to the national grid, reduce dependence on costly fuel imports, and contribute to the government’s long-term strategy of promoting cleaner energy solutions.
Officials stated that the integration of this plant would significantly strengthen the country’s capacity to meet growing electricity demand while maintaining efficiency and sustainability.
