In a move to strengthen bilateral military cooperation and enhance language skills among naval personnel, the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy, officially opened a state-of-the-art English Language Laboratory at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee.

The lab was inaugurated by Lt. Col. Matthew House of the U.S. Embassy, alongside Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardana and Commodore Dinesh Bandara.

Equipped with cutting-edge multimedia tools and training software from the U.S. Defense Language Institute, the facility is designed to help Sri Lanka Navy personnel improve their English proficiency — a key requirement for effective participation in international maritime operations and joint training programs.

Lt. Col. House emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating:

“It’s more than a classroom — it’s a connection between our forces and nations.”
