The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) permission to require two banks to produce detailed reports on the account activity of Panadura Nilanga, who is presently in custody.

Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama approved the request filed by the CID following a motion by the investigating officers. The CID had informed the court that there is intelligence indicating significant funds have been circulated through two of Nilanga’s bank accounts, which could be linked to drug trafficking and other criminal offences.

Authorities emphasised that tracking how money flows through those accounts is critical for further investigations. With the court’s approval, the two banks have been ordered to examine those accounts and submit full reports to the CID.

Panadura Nilanga remains in police custody for questioning as the investigations continue.
