Sri Lanka marks International Ozone Day 2025

The event, themed “40 years of the Vienna Convention: From Science to Global Action,” highlighted Sri Lanka’s efforts under the Montreal Protocol and Kigali Amendment to phase out ozone-depleting substances and reduce harmful refrigerants.
At the ceremony, national safety standards for handling new refrigerants, training guidelines, and technical equipment to strengthen the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector were officially handed over to relevant institutions.
Sri Lanka has already phased out CFCs, is on track to phase out HCFCs by 2030, and aims to cut HFC imports by 80% by 2045.
The event was organized by the Ministry’s Air Resource Management and Ozone Unit with the participation of officials, industry representatives, and students.
