President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to sign key bilateral agreements during his upcoming state visit to Japan, securing a total grant of 963 million Japanese yen (approximately Rs. 1.94 billion) from the Government of Japan.

The grant includes 500 million yen for an Official Security Assistance Project to strengthen the capabilities of the Sri Lanka Navy, and 463 million yen to enhance Sri Lanka’s dairy production sector.

Under the Navy-focused component, Japan will provide drones and surveillance technology to support investigation, monitoring, and maritime security operations.

Meanwhile, the dairy sector project will deliver modern equipment and technological assistance to the Department of Animal Production and Health, aimed at improving productivity and capacity in local dairy production.

President Dissanayake, who also holds the portfolio of Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, will sign the relevant exchange documents during his official visit. The Cabinet of Ministers has already approved the proposal to proceed with these projects.

The President is scheduled to depart for Japan on September 26, at the invitation of the Japanese Government. During his visit, he will also attend the World Expo International Trade Fair on September 27 and engage in high-level bilateral discussions with senior Japanese leaders.
