The Sri Lanka Navy has rescued six Sri Lankan nationals who were victims of human smuggling and left abandoned on a remote sand dune off the coast of Talaimannar.

The rescue operation was carried out by SLNS Thammanna of the North Central Naval Command, acting on credible intelligence about suspicious activity in the area. The individuals were discovered on Sand Dune VII, suffering from severe dehydration after being illegally transported by sea from India and subsequently deserted by the smugglers.

The victims, aged between 8 and 56, are residents of Vavuniya, Madhu, and Kokkadicholai.

They were handed over to the Talaimannar Police for further legal proceedings.
