The hotel, where Thondaman was staying, was reportedly set ablaze by protesters amid a local uprising. Despite having the opportunity to flee the scene, Thondaman reportedly chose to assist others, helping several fellow guests escape the burning building.

Eyewitnesses and those rescued by Thondaman later took to social media to express their gratitude, praising his courage and quick thinking during the crisis.
