Energy Minister Eng. Kumara Jayakody has assured that the restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be carried out without threatening the job security of its employees.

Addressing a press conference at the Government Information Department today (15), the Minister said that nearly 23,000 employees would be absorbed into four new institutions, all of which will be fully owned by the Treasury.

He clarified that no employee would be forcibly removed from service. Those unwilling to join the new institutions will have the option to resign voluntarily.

This is a legal requirement, not a government attempt to send workers home,” the Minister stressed.

Highlighting past Cabinet decisions, Minister Jayakody revealed that without these reforms, 12,000 employees would have lost their jobs after August 17, and the CEB would have been split into 12 separate entities.

“As a people’s government, we will protect every employee while taking all necessary steps to secure the country’s energy future,” he added.
