A technical officer attached to the Housing Development Authority (HDA) has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 in Pitigala.
The arrest followed a complaint made by a resident who had applied for a housing loan of Rs. 1 million.
According to CIABOC, the officer had demanded Rs. 50,000 in exchange for providing technical support and approval necessary for the loan disbursement.
The complainant received the first installment of Rs. 146,000 on August 19, during which the officer allegedly took Rs. 25,000 as part of the bribe. He later accepted the remaining Rs. 25,000 to continue with the formalities.
The officer was arrested today at the Development Section of the Niyagama Divisional Office. He is scheduled to be produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court.
