Gradual circulation of Rs. 2000 note begins

The Rs. 2000 commemorative currency note issued recently will gradually be released into circulation through Licensed Commercial Banks, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said.
The note, released on August 29, 2025, marks the 75th Anniversary of the CBSL.
To ensure smooth integration into the financial system, Licensed Commercial Banks are currently in the process of calibrating their cash-handling machines. As this process continues, the note will be introduced in phases through the banks.
The CBSL has called for public cooperation during this transition and assured that the new note will be fully accepted across all banking channels once machine calibration is complete.
