The High Post Committee of Parliament has decided to summon Public Security Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne for an inquiry into several pending legal cases against him, including a case related to alleged drunk driving.
The committee, which is tasked with vetting key government appointments — including Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Ministry Secretaries, and heads of statutory bodies — made the decision during a meeting held last week.
An opposition MP familiar with the proceedings stated that the inquiry will focus on the current status of the legal cases involving Mr. Seneviratne, as part of the committee’s standard procedure.
Appointments under the committee’s purview are typically announced publicly, allowing members of the public to raise objections through petitions.
Mr. Seneviratne is expected to appear before the committee during the first parliamentary week of October.
