Renovation of Maradana Railway Station Begins Today

This initiative forms a key component of the National Program to renovate 100 railway stations across Sri Lanka. Established in 1908, the Maradana Railway Station has long been a central hub in the country’s rail network.
The modernization project is designed to enhance passenger facilities, ensure safety, and create convenient, sustainable transport environments while preserving the station’s architectural heritage.
The first phase of the program was launched earlier this month with renovation work at the Galle Thalpe Railway Station.
Authorities emphasize that the project will not only improve reliability in rail transport but also contribute to boosting Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. Additionally, new safety measures, including signal and light warning systems at unsafe railway crossings, will be introduced alongside the station upgrades
