
Showers and Strong Winds Expected in many districts

.Showers or thundershowers are also likely in several areas of the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Hambantota district after 1.00 p.m. According to the forecast, some locations may experience fairly heavy rainfall of around 50 mm. Cloudy skies are expected over the Eastern, Uva, Central, and Southern provinces.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, in the sea areas around the island, showers are expected off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly, blowing at speeds between 30–40 kmph. The wind speed could increase up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, while wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely from Kankasanthurai to Matara via Puttalam, Colombo, and Galle.
The Met Department warns that the sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota may turn rough at times, while seas from Kankasanthurai to Matara via Puttalam, Colombo, and Galle could be fairly rough.
