Sri Lanka to Abolish MPs’ Pension Scheme

Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced that legislation is being drafted to abolish pensions granted to Members of Parliament.
The Minister noted that the new law will also apply retrospectively, thereby ending pension entitlements already granted to former MPs.
Dr. Jayatissa stressed that sustaining the livelihoods of politicians should not be a burden borne by the public.
He made these remarks while attending the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of a permanent building for the Balapitiya Main Post Office.
