Construction of the Central Expressway’s Kadawatha–Mirigama section will officially recommence on September 17, under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The restart will focus initially on the Kadawatha Interchange Hub and the first 500 meters of the highway. The government has allocated Rs. 8.6 billion for the resumption of work.

This section of the project was halted in mid-2022 due to the suspension of loan facilities amid the economic crisis. However, with fresh financing from the Export-Import Bank of China (Exim Bank) amounting to USD 500 million equivalent in yuan construction is now set to proceed.

The 37-kilometer stretch linking Kadawatha and Mirigama is a critical part of the Central Expressway network and is scheduled for completion by mid-2028.
