Within just one year, the Sri Lanka Police has requested the issuance of 200 Interpol Red Notices, according to Police Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler.

Following these requests, 17 suspects have been successfully extradited to Sri Lanka. ASP Wootler confirmed that all Red Notices were issued after the new government took office. He noted, however, that the convictions of the returned individuals are still pending as the legal process continues.

Addressing the complexities of international law enforcement, ASP Wootler explained, “Extradition can only take place after mutual agreements, based on reciprocal treaties between the involved countries, have been adopted. These processes can take time and require extensive transnational coordination. Given the complex procedures, the results achieved so far are plausible.”
