Sri Lanka has welcomed the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on the peaceful settlement of the Question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism extended its sincere appreciation to Saudi Arabia and France for their leadership in advancing the initiative.

Reaffirming its longstanding position, Sri Lanka emphasized its unwavering support for the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to statehood, in line with the principles of the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions.

The UNGA on Friday overwhelmingly voted to endorse the declaration, which calls for “tangible, timebound, and irreversible steps” towards achieving a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, ahead of an upcoming world leaders’ meeting.
