Showers in several provinces, rough seas expected

Showers or thundershowers are also likely to occur in several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces after 1.00 p.m. The public has been advised to take necessary precautions against localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, in the sea areas around the island, showers may occur in a few places off the coast from Colombo to Matara via Galle. Winds will be south-westerly, with speeds ranging between 30–40 kmph.

Wind speeds could increase up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas off Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and up to 50 kmph in the sea areas from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

The seas off Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be rough at times, while seas from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar may be fairly rough at times.

Authorities urge fishermen and naval communities to exercise caution when venturing into these sea areas.
