The Department of Meteorology forecasts several spells of showers today (12) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Showers or thundershowers are also likely at several places in the Northern, Eastern, and Uva provinces after 1.00 p.m., with fairly heavy falls of around 50 mm expected in some locations. The public is advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers are expected at several places in the sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Matara via Galle, and from Mannar to Kankasanthurai. Winds will be south-westerly at 30-40 kmph, strengthening up to 55 kmph at times off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and up to 50 kmph from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
The sea areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be rough at times, while seas from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar may be fairly rough.
