Deputy General Manager (Operations) T.H.R.T. Chandrasiri announced that buses will now operate from Pettah, Bodhiraja Mawatha, Gunasinghepura, and Bastiyan Mawatha until further notice.
The government’s plan to modernize the Central Bus Stand was unveiled during a meeting chaired by Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake at the Presidential Secretariat. The Sri Lanka Air Force will undertake the renovation work, with the facility fully vacated and handed over for the project.
Alongside this effort, 50 major bus terminals across the country are also scheduled for renovation with Air Force assistance.
The overhaul of the Colombo terminal will include upgrades to the cafeteria, rest areas, ticket counters, administrative offices, operations center, and driver accommodations.
Established in 1964, the Colombo Central Bus Stand spans 1.42 hectares and manages between 1,500 and 2,000 buses each day.
