The Court of Appeal today (10) ordered that a writ petition seeking an interim injunction to prevent former Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela from functioning as the acting Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy be taken up on September 23 for consideration.

The petition, filed by Gampola resident Saliya Prasad Nandasiri, was called before a bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando. The bench directed that the matter be taken up on the specified date for confirmation of facts.

The Commissioner for Buddhist Affairs, former Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela, and several others have been named as respondents in the case.

Filed through Attorney-at-Law Sandaruwan Senanayake, the petition states that the term of office of Nilanga Dela ended on September 7, and therefore, he should not continue to serve in an acting capacity.
