Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has sent a Letter of Demand to Deputy Minister of Public Security, Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala, alleging that a recent public statement made by the Deputy Minister was defamatory and insulting.

The letter, sent via registered post through Attorney-at-Law Sanka Karunaratne, refers to a media statement made by Watagala in the Homagama area, which Rajapaksa claims falsely implied his involvement in the country's drug supply network.

According to Rajapaksa, the Deputy Minister’s remarks were made in a manner that presented him as a key figure behind the narcotics trade in Sri Lanka, thereby seriously damaging his reputation. He further notes that the statement was issued publicly along with the use of his photograph, exacerbating the alleged defamation.

Through the Letter of Demand, Rajapaksa is seeking Rs. 1 billion in compensation for the harm caused to his character and public image.
