A group of 73 Sri Lankan pilgrims visiting Lumbini, Nepal, are reported to be safe and currently sheltered at the Lumbini Sri Lanka Temple.
The temple’s resident monk, Ven. Tissamaharame Pannasara Thero, confirmed that the group, who had arrived for the Dambadiva pilgrimage, is staying at the vihara due to the ongoing civil unrest in Nepal. He further stated that arrangements have been made for their return to India today.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged all Sri Lankans in Nepal to remain indoors as much as possible for their safety, given the widespread protests taking place in several areas, including Kathmandu.
The ministry has also announced that in the event of an emergency, Sri Lankans in Nepal can seek assistance by contacting the Sri Lankan Embassy’s 24-hour hotline: 977 985 104 8653.
