The Department of Meteorology has forecast several spells of showers in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces as well as in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts today (10)

Showers or thundershowers are also expected at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Mullaitivu district after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm is likely at some locations.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, in the sea areas around the island, showers may occur at several places off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be south-westerly with speeds between 30–40 kmph.

Wind speeds may increase up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and up to 50 kmph in the seas off the coast from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

The seas off Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be rough at times, while seas off Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar may be fairly rough.
