Parliament Approves Sri Lanka–UAE Investment Protection Agreement

Parliament today (09) approved the resolution related to the agreement signed between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with 163 votes in favor and none against.

Accordingly, the resolution was passed by a two-thirds majority, as required under Article 157 of the Constitution.

The agreement, which was signed on February 12, 2025, and presented to Parliament on August 21, 2025, concerns the promotion and mutual protection of investments between the two countries.

Under its provisions, investments made in Sri Lanka by UAE nationals, or by organizations, companies, or associations incorporated or established under UAE law, will be promoted and safeguarded.

The vote on the resolution was taken at around 5:00 p.m. today, following the parliamentary debate on the matter.
