The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Sri Lankans in Nepal to take precautions and remain indoors due to ongoing nationwide protests.

In a notice issued today (9), the Ministry said officials at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu can be contacted 24 hours a day via +977-9851048653.

Sri Lankans have been advised to keep essential supplies such as water, dry food, and necessary medication on hand. The Ministry added that it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in contact with the Sri Lankan mission and community leaders in Nepal.

The unrest follows the resignation of Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli after three ministers quit amid deadly protests over alleged government corruption, which have claimed 19 lives. The demonstrations, described by organisers as a “Gen Z protest,” escalated after the lifting of a social media ban late Monday night.
