The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) yesterday (08) launched Sri Lanka’s official national website dedicated to monitoring and assessing air quality.
The launch was held in parallel with the global celebration of International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, which fell on September 7.
The website, titled National Air Quality Network, is accessible at www.aq.cea.lk. It provides real-time air quality data covering the entire island, presented in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
The platform currently integrates data collected by the CEA and the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), with plans to link other institutions that monitor air quality in the future.
Funding for the development of the website was provided by the Vehicle Emission Testing Trust Fund.
During the launch ceremony, participants were educated on the importance of protecting air quality and trained on how to effectively use the website to access vital information.
The event was held at the CEA Auditorium with the participation of Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendige, State Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody, Ministry Secretary K.R. Uduwawala, CEA Chairman Prof. Tilak Hewawasam, and CEA Director General Kapila Mahesh Rajapaksha, among other officials.
