Police have dismissed as completely false social media claims that two containers held at the Colombo Port under a red label for inspection, and allegedly suspected of containing chemicals linked to crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’), were released on the orders of the NPP Government.

In a statement, police said the false reports had been attributed to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olagala, who has categorically denied making any such comments.

The statement further noted that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya has ordered a special investigation into the matter. Police warned that those responsible for spreading the fake news will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
